UPDATE 6/23/19: The 2019 Historical Novel Society Conference is now past. Our next conference will be in 2021. If you would like to see what the previous Costume Contest entailed, please look at the description below.
The 2019 Costume Contest will take place at the Opening Night Cocktail Reception, on Thursday, June 20, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., in the POSE Lounge on the top floor of the Gaylord National Resort. The goal of the contest is to provide a fun activity that celebrates history and encourages conference attendees to mingle with each other.
There are two categories for the Costume Contest:
- Best Evocation of a Historical Personage
- Best Evocation of a Historical Period
To enter, come in your best costume attire and sign in at the table at the entrance to the reception. You will be given a stack of “calling cards” to hand out to those you mingle with throughout the evening. Stay in character throughout the evening and try to convince other conference-goers to vote for you.
Voting closes at 7:15 p.m. The winners will be announced at 7:30 p.m. And yes, there are prizes!
